Configure Static IP Address in CentOS

The following steps will show configuration of static IP address in CentOS machine.
Files needed for network configuration are under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts. So open the file with editor like nano or vi. Here I will use nano editor. After you start your server running CentOS enter root user credentials and get in. Type the command,

# nano /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
HWADDR=00:1F:C6:6E:3E:48
TYPE=Ethernet
UUID=5fe5970b-2a4f-4e9d-ae63-ddf6439520d5
ONBOOT=yes
NM_CONTROLLED=no
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=192.168.1.51
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY=192.168.1.1

Then save the file, to save press ctrl+x to exit and press y for confirmation.
Now restart the network services by issuing the command,

[root@hostname~]# service network restart
After configuring IP address now let’s configure DNS. Name server or DNS information is stored in different file. The location is, /etc/recolv.conf.  Again using nano editor to configure DNS information,
[root@hostname~]# nano /etc/resolv.confBy default, this file is empty, so enter at least one entry here,
nameserver 4.2.2.2
The name server IP address can be different depending on your network scenario. I will use www.google.com. Now save the file and exit. You can test the configuration by issuing ping command.

[root@hostname~]# ping www.google.comIf you get the reply, you have successfully configured the IP address and DNS information.

And for those interested in this, here are the steps to set this up on CentOS (by memory, so please correct me if I’m wrong):

1. Navigate to the init.d directory

cd /etc/init.d2. Create a new file named shoutcast by opening up the nano text editor

nano shoutcast3. Paste in above code (right click if you’re using putty) and save by pressing CTRL + X and then Y.

4. Give the new file the correct permissions.

chmod 0755 /etc/init.d/shoutcast5. Navigate to the rc.d directory

cd /etc/rc.d/rc5.d6. Create a sym-link to the shoutcast file we created in init.d

ln -s ../init.d/shoutcast S99shoutcast7. Register the script with the system.

chkconfig --add shoutcast8. Enable the service to start automatically

chkconfig shoutcast on9. Ensure that your servers start as planned.

/etc/init.d/shoutcast start10. You may wish to reboot the system to ensure that they start up properly as well.

pentru a instala si a face sa mearga shoutcast pentru 64 biti este nevoie de aceasta librarie:

yum install glibc.i686
